Dr. Hamada is outstanding. Your new facility however is cold, impersonal and reminds me of a horse stable. Your desk staff is lackadaisical and impersonal, and handing me a numbered card with a room number reminds me of the butcher shop. Patients must walk to the end of a neverending corridor and match the number on their card to the number on one of dozens of doors, and wait patiently. Calling the doctor means going through a switchboard who refers me to another switchboard who contacts the doctor's staff who eventually calls me back. And if I miss the call we redo the whole drill. It is very efficient for you, but horrid for the patient. I will stay with Dr. Hamada as she has and continues to be an exceptional and outstanding physician, but when she chooses to retire, should Advocate continue its current direction, I will find services in another healthcare system. I currently use physicians in another system for specialist services and their staff attitude (with the exception of Dr. Hamada), compassion and the delivery process is incomparably better than the current Advocate system. I have also been at the sleep study facility with my husband, and that facility is patched together, run down, and understaffed. The one person on duty is answering phones, and the door, and caring for patients, and apologizing for all the interruptions, when it isn't his fault. The facility is reminiscent of the DMV, with reused and totally mismatched furniture. In the sleep room the two night stands don't even match each other. The overall impression is that Advocate is solely focused on maximizing revenue at the expense of patient care and compassion, with efficiency at the forefront and investment in facilities that are financially efficient while totally ignoring your patients. Advocate can do far better than it currently is doing. As a former Advocate employee in physician practice management, who was proud of the mission and focus of the system, the apparent current focus on profit above all else is disheartening. Other providers are able to remain viable while providing compassionate patient care, I hope Advocate can re-direct and return to a patient-centered, financially viable model.
